Getting great results from training and running a successful business have one common denominator – good goal setting.
This will come as no surprise to the those who have undergone body transformations, posted a personal best in athletics, lifted a record weight in powerlifting or ran a business well.
This weekend the streets of Derry will play host to throngs of people who know what I’m talking about. Those taking on the 26.2 miles of the Walled City Marathon know well what would happen if they simply turned up to the race on a whim without having completed the long months of preparation required.
I know more than a few people who after crossing finish line last year, promised themselves that they’d complete it faster next time around. I know some who didn’t cross the line at all and who vowed to complete the distance in 2016.
That’s good goal setting. It’s good because it gives a strong focus to your training and plenty of time to set about putting in place a workable plan to achieve the goal. Once the plan is place with the end goal clearly defined it’s a matter of chipping away at the daily and weekly tasks or what are known in business as key performance indicators. These include daily diet and training targets which change ever so slightly every so often and are all cogs in the wheel which keep you moving toward your overall objective.
Marathon running is just one of hundreds of examples that can be used to demonstrate how proper goal setting is a must in order to achieve results from training. By the way, I’d like to wish everyone taking part in this weekend’s marathon all the best on behalf of the FF Fitness team – just remember to fuel and hydrate well as it’s going to be a hot one.
By sticking to a plan, goals will be achieved – as any successful marathoner body builder, weightlifter, footballer etc, or indeed business leader will tell you.
Baseball Hall of Fame’ Yogi Berra got it spot on when he said: If you don’t know where you are going, you will wind up somewhere else.”
But don’t worry if you find yourself in that position as there is always a good personal trainer willing to coach you along. At FF Fitness we can help you not only set attainable goals but walk you every step of the way towards smashing them by simply stinking to the plan. You will see the progress, get the most from your training in the minimum amount of time and feel on top of the world as a result.
